- Owling: Owls, Nightjars and other birds

Introduction

We´ll travel in the evening to the Coastal Range to look for owls and other nocturnal birds. Among them the elusive Rufous-legged Owl, an endemic from Southern South America, which has inspired many legends and folklore.

We´ll arrive at dusk to watch and listen to the diurnal birds as they call off the day by singing and calling before they retire to rest, like: California Quail, Giant Hummingbird, Green-backed Firecrown, Thorn-tailed Rayadito, Southern House Wren, Rufous-collared Sparrow and Central Chile endemics including: Dusky-tailed Canastero, Moustached Turca, White-throated Tapaculo and Chilean Mockingbird, among others.

After sunset we´ll focus on our main objectives, owls like: American Barn Owl, Magellanic Horned Owl, Austral Pigmy-Owl, and the shy Band-winged Nightjar.
